A birth doula provides:
Affirming and respectful response during pregnancy, labor and postpartum
Massage
Labor positioning
Pressure
Community resources such as support groups, supplies, medical providers, therapists and more
Up-to-date information on comfort measures for before and during labor
Knowledge about medical protocol
Birth planning
Advocacy
A doula does NOT perform medical tasks (i.e., placing an IV or checking cervix), make decisions for patients or enforce their own beliefs on patients' birth experience.
A doula is solely there to support the birthing person and their loved ones as they carry out their birth wishes.
